Meghan Markle signs autographs in visit to LA Children's Hospital

Meghan Markle handed out signed pictures with her autograph in her latest appearance, going against a royal rule most members of The Firm follow.

The Duchess of Sussex was handing out signed Polaroids when she visited a hospital in Los Angeles. The 42-year-old smiled as she chatted with the young patients and showed them how the camera works. The royal attended the hospital on March 21, but clips were shown recently by Extra TV on X. Meghan Markle‘s autograph may turn out to be worth a pretty penny if they ever part with them, but she unknowingly went against a rule most other members of The Firm follow when it comes to public appearances.

At one point in the cute clip, the mom-of-two can be seen telling one girl ‘what’s neat’ about the picture. They watched it develop after taking the snap and encouraged another boy to shake the film as it was processing.

The former TV star held onto a Sharpie, primed to autograph the snaps for the Meghan Markle fans.

She gave them hugs in warm embraces and leaned down to talk to them.

The Suits actress also dusted off her acting kills by reading to the patients.

She read Rosie Revere, Engineer, which the celebrity said was one of her favorite stories.

Meghan, married to Prince Harry, dressed to impress as she wore an Oscar De La Renta silk-chiffon dress, worth $3,490.

But she showed her frugal side as she wore the dress in pictures shown through the couple’s Netflix docuseries which released in December 2022.

Meghan wore black Love Affair pumps, ($747), and a strap from Aquazzura, an Italian brand.

A statement about Meghan’s visit read: “Children were laughing and singing as The Duchess turned into character with every page as she read patient favorite books like Rosie the Riveter, Pete the Cat and I Saw a Cat”.

Royals don’t sign autographs

There is an unwritten rule that royals aren’t allowed to write their name down, even if a young fan or child asks.

Part of this reason is believed to be due to “the risk of the signature being forged”.

Kate Middleton was once asked for her to sign something when speaking to 100 children from various schools in 2023, but had to refuse.

To not upset the young fan, she compromised: “I can’t write my name, but I can draw,” she offered instead.

However, King Charles has made a blunder too when it came to it – so Meghan Markle isn’t the only one to give an autograph without thinking.

In 2010, when the monarch was a prince, he was asked to sign his name for a victim of the Cornwall floods.

He then wrote ‘Charles 2010’ on a piece of paper and apologized for the ‘shaky writing’.
